Objetivo

Discuss how South African language policies are implemented in higher education contexts

On the occasion of the Pi Day, celebrated annually on March 14 (this year numerically corresponds with up to five digits: 3.1415), the Society of Spanish Researchers in Southern Africa (ACESDA) organizes two talks at the Science Block, Main Campus, University of Namibia.

  • Dra. Ixchel Dzohara Gutiérrez Rodríguez (CITMAga & Universidade de vigo)

Curvature, a central concept in differential geometry, acts as a “geometric thermometer” that measures how space deviates from being flat. In this talk, we will explore its meaning. Through mathematical tools, we will uncover how curvature not only quantifies local deformations but also dictates the global properties of a space. Finally, we will see why this concept is indispensable in theoretical physics and relativity.

  • Dr. Xavier García Martínez (CITMAga & Universidade de vigo)

In this talk we will explore the fascinating ideas behind Gröbner bases as the main generalisation of two of the most important algorithms in basic mathematics: the Gaussian elimination algorithm, and the Euclidean algorithm. We will give an overview and explore some of thir multiple applications in all areas of mathematics.

This event has been organized by ACESDA, in collaboration the support of the Fundación Ramón Areces, the CITMAga and the Universidade de Vigo.
