Objetivo

Discuss how South African language policies are implemented in higher education contexts

The presentation will discuss how South African language policies are implemented in higher education contexts, with the focus on the North-West University (NWU). The situation of Stellenbosch University, which has the same historical background as NWU, will also be briefly commented on. The evaluation of language policy documents with a critical discourse analysis perspective and the examination via interviews and focus groups of the implementation of the policy will provide a broad picture of what occurs in theory and what happens in reality. This methodology will also be explained and discussed.
